October 11, 2007, Ventura County Government Center Summary: Arts Education Funding Arts Lobbyist Kathryn Lynch shared background details of how she lead the effort
that resulted in the$106 billion arts education funding. Now, how will the projected $8 billion State budget deficit
may impact new arts education funding?
AB 1365 Lisa Caretto, Executive Director, California Arts Advocates gave some of the background on efforts to provide funding for the California Arts Council and how that has lead to Assembly Bill 1356. AB 1365 requires that 20% of
existing sales tax charged in two specific retail categories pertaining to arts, crafts and music be transferred to the
California ArtsCouncil. If this bill becomes law, it will generate in the first year more than $30 million for the
California Arts Council and its grant programs.

pressure on elected officials at all levels about the value of public support for the arts Local advocacy action
