PURPOSE
The Ventura County Arts Council Arts-in-the-Classroom Mini-Grant Program was established to provide a source of support for the public elementary schools to partner with local arts organizations and artists to bring standards based arts into classroom. This round of mini-grants will be awarded in the spring of 2008 to be used during the 2008-2009 school year. The principal of every public elementary school in the county should have received a copy of the application.
ELIGIBILITY
Ventura County Arts Council Arts-in-the-Classroom mini-grants are available to Ventura County elementary schools that partner with a VCAC member artist or arts organizations*. All programs must adhere to the guiding principles contained in the Visual and Performing Arts Framework and the Content Standards for California Public Schools, Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve which is downloadable at http://www.cde.ca.gov/shsd/arts/standards.
All arts disciplines will be considered. Only one application per school will be funded.
CRITERIA
Ventura County Arts Council Arts-in-the-Classroom Mini-Grant funds can be used to pay for artist fees and art supplies. Projects will be selected on the criterion of learning experiences structured by the California Arts Content Standards, utilization of local artist resources and ongoing learning that uses this project as a springboard for continuing arts education and/or integration with other content areas.
Study after study has concluded that students benefit from an education that includes the arts as part of the core curriculum. Arts education encourages creative thinking, team problem solving, risk taking, and excellence as the standard, all of which are essential to job preparedness for the information age.
Match: The Ventura County Arts Council's Arts-in-the-Classroom mini-grants of $300 to $500 are intended to be seed money which is to be matched dollar-for-dollar with new money by the schools. In-kind is not acceptable as a match.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
Interested elementary schools and their arts provider should complete the application form and submit it by 5:00pm Thursday, April 10, 2008.
Mail or hand deliver completed applications to the Ventura County Arts Council, 646 County Square Drive, Suite 154, Ventura, CA 93003-0436. Late or incomplete applications will be returned without being reviewed. Applicants will be notified by mail after the Review Panel has made its decision.
